The other Side

Bahamas

The Other Side is a boutique hotel which is powered entirely by the sun, the buildings are in-fact tents to reduce the impact on the environment and the pool is filled with water directly from the ocean in an H2O conserving attempt. They use locally sources products for the kitchen, including growing their own vegetables from their farm which all organic. They are committed to using as little plastic as possible in their purchasing and the bottled water provided in the rooms are all refilled into reusable glass bottles. They also provide waterfront access to scientists doing marine conservation research.

Cuixmala

Cuixmala is its private eco-luxe concept, set within 30,000 acre nature reserve. A sprawling organic and biodynamic farm provides almost everything that is served on the estate. In conjunction with Cuixmala’s sister property, the Hacienda de San Antonio, the majority of produce, products and ointments are organically created in house. Sir James Goldsmith’s passion is to save the environment rather than to harm it. Cuixmala includes a wildlife sanctuary and supports a the turtle foundation and where you can gaze at hundreds of thousands of turtle hatchlings in Casa Rio.

Keemala has a strong commitment to Environmental and Ethical Practice, and staff members are trained in best eco-friendly practices. Sustainable, organic food is grown on site or locally sourced, therefore reducing their carbon footprint. Keemala avoids plastic use and all spa products and cleaning products are 100% natural, cruelty free and eco-friendly. Their Anti-Animal Exploitation Policy means they only offer ethical animal tourism experiences. Keemala has also paired up with Keemala Green Club, a non-profit organisation which promotes ocean clean up.

The doors of Hacienda de San Antonio stand open for guests to experience a melding of remarkable authenticity, luxury, eco-conscientious practices and the highest level of service. The property aims to preserve the natural environment through a variety of ecological programs and activities, including biodynamic farming practices and ranch. There is no plastic used and in room amenities include natural soaps made at the Hacienda. Sir James Goldsmith’s passion is to conserve the environment and the Hacienda is big on sustainability and eco consciousness as well as its sister property, Cuixmala.

From reducing waste and conserving energy to growing its own organic vegetables and partnering with marine conservation, the hotel is fully committed to lessening their footprint and promoting sustainability. Their green and eco initiatives include, farm-to-table consumption, waste reduction, energy efficiency and localised purchasing whilst always providing a comfortable, welcoming and sustainable environment for every guest. Guests can also enjoy snorkelling and diving, where Round Hill is working with a local marine scientist to rehabilitate and restore the corals, fish and shell fish to their house-reef.

Marrying New York luxe design with a green ethos, the Crosby Street Hotel has been awarded the Gold LEED certificate by the US Green Buildings Council in recognition of its commitment to renewable energy, saving resources and its positive attitude towards guests’ wellbeing.  Under the guidance of consultants Veridian Energy & Environmental, the design team developed an approach that targeted all aspects from reducing construction environmental impact to green housekeeping and hotel operations. There is also a kitchen garden on the rooftop!

From the very beginning, the vision for this property was to create an inspiring luxury safari home with a commitment to sustainability. The house was built from local, natural materials, blending into the landscape and supporting the local trade. The property is solar powered and the firewood for the evenings is collected from sustainable wood-lots the Conservancy. There is a farm-to-fork ethos and the ingredients are organic from the local farm or from the kitchen garden. The property supports the conservation projects of the Borana Conservancy and its wildlife.

At Heckfield Place sustainability starts with the soil. They believe in the natural rhythm of the growing seasons, in making a positive contribution to the living landscape. In the riches of the Hampshire surroundings, their farm provides fruit, vegetables, honey and fresh flowers for the restaurants and rooms. The team encourages guests to discover the farm for themselves and to pick fresh ingredients to be prepared for their supper. As well as incredible Biodynamic farming practices, the hotel has a biomass energy centre and uses rain water harvesting techniques.

The hidden gem of the Balearic Islands is far from the beaten track of mass tourism and its natural environment has remained largely unspoilt. Boasting a rich diversity of fauna and flora. The property uses sustainable practices and is mindful of energy and water consumption (only using solar energy) as well as recycling and composting, reducing plastic use and sourcing local materials. They have a farm-to-fork approach using organic and seasonal produce and ingredients from their farm and kitchen garden. They also use organic Otigia amenities in the rooms.

This private, consciously created, environment friendly home is fully powered with solar energy, comes with its own well and filtered water. The chef uses only organic produce locally sourced and they offer fresh eggs daily from their chickens. The villa was built with traditional materials sourced locally supporting several Women’s co-operatives as well as emerging artists. It is an ever-evolving interpretation of a desert sanctuary – a blended mix of styles, filled with nomadic artefacts, antiques and curiosities from around the world.
