Welcome to Kilmara Lodge — A Restorative Retreat in the Far North

Tucked away in the wilds of Sutherland, Kilmara Lodge offers an exclusive escape into the raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Surrounded by private woodland and ever-changing mountain views, this historic former shooting lodge combines rich heritage with modern comfort.

Once the shooting lodge of the Dukes of Sutherland, Kilmara Lodge retains much of its vernacular charm, yet has been reimagined to become the most welcoming home for those who don’t wish to be found. The lodge has recently undergone a major refresh and houses several shared spaces for you to gather or find a quiet, peaceful spot.

Overlooking Ben Loyal and the river below, the conservatory is a wonderful spot for breakfast and afternoon tea. Adjacent to the conservatory is a cosy living room with an open fire and comfy seats for pre-dinner gatherings. Inside, seven thoughtfully designed bedrooms blend Scottish character with Scandinavian simplicity, while a series of inviting shared spaces—fireside living rooms, a peaceful library, and a sunlit conservatory overlooking Ben Loyal—create a sense of warmth and connection.

A separate wellness annexe and wood-fired sauna yurt by the river invite moments of deep relaxation, making it a place to both restore and reconnect. Whether seeking adventure or stillness, Kilmara Lodge is a sanctuary where comfort and wilderness live beautifully side by side.
